Harpsichordist Mahan Esfahani has performed part of Insects, the new piece by Michael Berkeley, at the Snape Maltings Concert Hall. Insects was written for Esfahani, and is a work that naturally follows on from Berkeley's birds-inspired Haiku for piano. Esfahani is also a master in the performance of Bach's music, and this concert's programme also included the French Dance Suites.

BBC Radio 3 broadcast a live Lunchtime Concert from London's Wigmore Hall, including an extended version of Michael Berkeley's 'A Dark Waltz', arranged especially for Nicholas Daniel and Julius Drake. The concert took place without an audience present, and is part of a series of twenty recitals - the first live concerts since the start of lockdown. The series features some of the UK's finest instrumentalists and singers in music from the 16th century to the present day.

Somewhere: An English-Austrian Song Recital
Haiku 1: Birds, Ode - In Memoriam, Speaking Silence, Three Cabaret Songs, Three Rilke Sonnets & Three songs to children

This special evening will see the young virtuoso mezzo-soprano Josipa Bainac, accompanied by pianist David Hausknecht and cellist Arne Kircher, interpret recent compositions by Austrian and English composers. The programme includes 'Ode - In Memoriam', 'Blow Northern Wind' from 'Speaking Silence', 'Hard times' from 'Three Cabaret Songs', 'A Cradle Song' & 'A Child Asleep' from 'Three Songs to Children', 'Haiku' and 'Und fast ein Madchen' from 'Three Rilke Sonnets' by Michael Berkeley. Also on the programme are works by Lennox Berkeley, Erich. W. Korngold and Akos Banlaky. The concert has a unique symbiotic twist: English poetry set to Austrian compositions, and vice versa.
